The ECO4 scheme obligates large energy suppliers to fund energy efficiency measures in homes across the UK. The primary objectives are to:
Reduce fuel poverty by lowering energy bills for eligible households.
Decrease carbon emissions in line with the UK's Net Zero targets.
Enhance the energy efficiency of the least efficient homes, focusing on properties with Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings of D to G.
Eligibility for ECO4 funding is determined by specific criteria:
Property Criteria
EPC Rating: Homes with an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G are eligible.
Occupancy: Both homeowners and private tenants can apply. Tenants will need landlord consent for improvements.
Location: Properties must be located in England, Scotland, or Wales.
Household Criteria
Households may qualify if they receive one or more of the following benefits:
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Income Support (IS)
Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit or Savings Credit)
Working Tax Credit (WTC)
Child Tax Credit (CTC)
Universal Credit (UC)
Housing Benefit
Child Benefit (subject to income thresholds)
Please note: Evidence of benefit eligibility may be required during the application process.
Additionally, the ECO4 Flex scheme allows local authorities to refer households not receiving these benefits but still in need, such as those with low incomes or health conditions affected by cold homes.
